This is the non-serious bit ........ just occasionally we come across funny material that is really good. We promise that nothing here will cause you to groan (too much).
Firstly ....... here is an audio file (MP3) of a story by Stuart McLean from The Vinyl Café about what happened to a chap when a really rare bird appeared in his backyard one winter ..... it's fiction, but only just. Side-splittingly funny ...... listen to it by clicking THE BIRD (note: there are possibly copyright issues over this file so please understand that this is made available to you on a once only listen and delete basis)
The following video clips, mostly television advertisements, can be downloaded by clicking on the links below and will play automatically on your computer in whatever media player you use. With a reasonable broadband connection they should take about 30-45 seconds each to download ..... with dial-up? Well, go make some coffee.
The Woodpeckers Fight Back
Woodpecker is a brand of not very nice, and way too sweet, cider sold in Britain .... however if you find the idea of people going out with guns to shoot birds a little reprehensible then have a look at this very clever television advertisement :

Penguins
Penguins are cute, right? They apparently have talents that you never dreamed of as this beer advertisement, also from the UK, demonstrates

Think you know your bird songs ?
This is an advertisement for Perrier water that was made by the French for the British audience - it will test your ability to recognise bird songs and has a nice joke in the punchline

Running the gauntlet
This time, a spanish advertisement for Peugeot cars ..... how good is your gull identification?

Up at cock-crow
From France, this ad for orange juice is for all those birders who were ever tempted to go beyond pishing to try and get a response from their quarry

..... and finally, Frogs
Sometimes we find, and enjoy, other species than birds when out in the countryside ..... does anyone like Frogs as much as we do? This is an advert for a popular Scottish soft drink that will appeal to feminist birders (the advert that is, the drink is disgusting)
