I have experience in the fields of finance, taxation and accountancy, scientific research and publishing, having worked in a number of capacities in the public and private sectors, as well as for charities. In these different environments I have developed a good range of administrative skills along with flexibility.

Simply Accounting, Excel, Word

I have working experience of these systems, in addition to having completed courses about them. Currently I use them in my position as a treasurer for a medium-sized incorporated registered charity, but I have my own copies of the software which I can use for other clients.

Proofreading and editing

I have worked for publishers and other companies in the production of scientific reports, financial reports and charities’ newsletters.

Retail management

For the past three years I have helped to manage a small retail shop specialising in books, equipment and giftware related to Canadian birds and other wildlife.

French in the workplace

Since coming to Canada eight years ago, I have taken a number of courses in French conversation, writing and editing, as well as successfully completing the advanced level of a full-time government course.

Online research and grant applications

I have assisted with the online applications for Quebec government academic grants as well as the research to prepare the second edition of The Birders’ Almanac. These projects required an efficient use of the internet in addition to checking and collation of references.

Personal taxation

Before coming to Canada I worked for nearly 20 years in the accountancy and taxation profession; in Canada I completed a course with H&R Block sufficiently well for them to offer me work.

Confidentiality assured

Many of my previous employments have required complete discretion as in the work for high-end net worth UK clients or the academic grants’ applications.

Location

I have equipment and facilities for working on clients’ projects in my own office or can visit their premises on Montreal’s West Island.
